Like other industries, the Airlines may be scaling back their perks, but some still have freebies for fliers
Free Ticket anyone? Yes you can score a free ticket once in a while when travelling through busy hubs. Airlines mostly overbook passangers and have to honor the overbooking by offering free vouchers for free ticket to those who are willing to take later flight or make adjustments to their itenrary and vacate their seat. If you don't mind a slight hassel, a $400 travel voucher is a pretty great freebie that you can score.
Also if you feel that your seat might have been cancelled or you have been grossly inconvinienced by the airline, ask to be compensated. If you are nice there is a good chance that airline will compensate you with free voucher or free upgrade and stuff.
With most airlines charging you $25+ per bag or more, the freebie of two bags checking in for free on sothwest sounds like a good deal. JetBlue lets you check one bag free, plus gives you access to free TV, satellite radio and all-you-can-eat snacks. Continental still serves free meals on several routes. And all kids under age 2 can fly free on your lap on any airline.
